The Claims Process: Step by Step

Your Rights as a Vehicle Owner
You have the right to choose your repair shop. Insurance companies cannot legally require you to use a specific shop in Colorado.
Under Colorado law, you are entitled to:
- Choose any licensed repair facility. Your insurer cannot steer you to a preferred shop.
- OEM parts when specified by your vehicle manufacturer’s certification requirements
- A written estimate before repairs begin
- Notification of any changes to the repair plan
- A safe, complete repair that restores your vehicle to pre-accident condition
If your insurance company pressures you to use a different shop, contact the Colorado Division of Insurance at (303) 894-7490.
About Direct Repair Programs (DRP)
A Direct Repair Program (DRP) is an agreement between an insurance company and a body shop. While DRP shops offer convenience, you are never required to use one.
Phil Long Collision Center works with all insurance companies regardless of DRP status. Our OEM certifications and I-CAR Gold training mean your repair meets the highest industry standards, whether or not we’re in your insurer’s preferred network.
We advocate for proper repairs on your behalf. If an insurer’s estimate doesn’t cover the full scope of required work, we submit supplements with detailed documentation until the repair is approved correctly.
